SOL Testing Information and Schedule

ACMS Parents:
This is providing you with information regarding upcoming state assessments to be administered at the middle school beginning April 13, 2021.  Students who are enrolled in Grades 6-8 and attending school hybrid/in-person will be administered SOL tests in Reading, Math, and Science (Gr. 8 only).  SOL testing will be administered by school personnel under standardized testing conditions with social distancing and other required COVID-19 related guidelines in place.  Students who are enrolled in Grades 6-8 and attend school fully virtual will also have the option to come into school and be administered SOL testing on Wednesdays (Parents please contact Mr. Balducci at balduccin@ameliaschools.com or Ms. Lacks at lacksa@ameliaschools.com) to make arrangements for your student to come in. An Assumption of Risk waiver form will need to be completed for each virtual student entering the building for testing.

VDOE recognizes that some parents of students learning virtually may refuse to have their students come into school and be tested due to concerns related to COVID-19.   Because information on students’ achievement is so important this year, VDOE is providing another testing option for students who are not administered the SOL tests in spring 2021 due to COVID-19 concerns. Students who are enrolled in Grades 3-8 and attending fully virtual who are not administered SOL testing will be administered the Virginia Remote Student Progress Tests (VRSPT).   These assessments will be available for reading and mathematics in grades 3-8 and for science in grades 5 and 8.  The assessments will include items measuring the Standards of Learning and will be administered remotely to students beginning in late April.  Students eligible for the VRSPT assessments are those who continue to receive all of their instruction remotely and whose parents have refused to allow them to come to school to take the SOL test.

ACMS Community Engagement Session Sign-up

ACMS Parents,
The middle school will be conducting parent engagement sessions beginning December 2, 2020.  The purpose of each session is to increase the number of meaningful contacts between families and ACMS school-based personnel. It is our hope that increased contact will result in our families being able to communicate their concerns regarding students and schools. We also hope to solicit ideas regarding how we can better serve our families. I ask that you complete our Community Education Session Public Survey by November 20, 2020. The survey can be found in the e-mail sent to parents and it can be accessed on the ACMS homepage, along with the ACMS Facebook page.

Read with the Principal

Raider Parents,

I am launching my Read with the Principal program and am looking for 10 students from each grade level to read with. Because of the limited number of books available, this will have to be first come first served. The purpose of the program is twofold: share the importance of reading and building relationships. I have selected one book for each grade level. My sixth-grade students will be reading The Stars Beneath Our Feet, seventh graders will read The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind and my eighth-grade students will read Blended. If selected, students will be provided the books and a schedule of chapters to read weekly. They will also be expected to participate in weekly discussions through Google Meet to talk about what we are reading. The meets will take place every Wednesday at a time to be determined. If your child would like to participate, please have the student complete the Google form (link attached to this communication), and posted on the Middle School’s website or contact me here at the school.   https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSespa30cF4NDsmCSMMOYcNMfz1ouHTeVre76MVOg7a8Pu-47Q/viewform

I hope that your students find this opportunity as fascinating as I do.

Educationally,

Bobby
