Students in Ms. Rebecca Gaulding’s science classes made gifts for local veterans.
Thanks to an anonymous donation, students in Ms. Rebecca Gaulding’s science classes were able to make gifts for a few of the community’s veterans. The students constructed many wooden, plastic, and leather kits. After completion, students were given the choice to donate the gift to a school employee who was a veteran, to take home to a family member who was a veteran, or to donate the gift to a Wounded Warrior. Students presented gifts to Ms. Linda Hackney (Army), Mr. Chapel (Coast Guard), and Mr. Swann (Army), Mr. Gary Putnam (Navy), and Mr. Orlon Jackson (Marine Corps). Students also researched branches of military, wrote poems and letters, and discussed the meaning of Veteran’s Day. Ms. Gaulding’s desire to have her students understand sacrifice and appreciation for veterans is very strong as her mother was an Army nurse during the Vietnam Conflict.
