Press Release: July 14, 2015
At its July 13, 2015 meeting, the Amelia County School Board unanimously approved the recommendation of Dr. Sarah Tanner-Anderson as the newly appointed principal of Amelia County Middle School.
Sarah Tanner-Anderson (“Dr. T-A”) is an Amelia native and proud product of Amelia County Public Schools ('99). She obtained her Bachelor of Arts ('02) in English and Master of Arts ('07) in English, Education, and Writing from Longwood University and a Doctor of Education ('14) in Educational Administration and Policy Studies from The George Washington University. As an educator, she has taught middle, high, and college-level courses and has cultivated leadership experiences as former president of a state education organization, department chair at both the middle and high school levels, and service as Assistant Principal of Amelia County Middle School.
Her educational philosophy hinges on a simple fact: children are fascinating learners whose minds are unpainted canvases primed with curiosities that know no bounds. Rather than stifle creativity, that beautiful curiosity, she believes it is the duty of educational leaders to cultivate a life-long love of and appreciation for learning. She also believes the students of Amelia County deserve the same fair shot that neighboring counties’ children receive; further, they deserve a principal who will believe in their potential and roll up her sleeves to work alongside the faculty and staff to make that dream a reality. Her work ethic is indicative of an insatiable passion to be an effective and creative educational leader. She learned from an early age that perseverance and determination, coupled with courage and aspiration, lay the foundation for success.
Amelia County Middle School has seen much growth and progress with their academic and extracurricular activities over the past years. This is greatly attributed to the hard work and dedication of the teachers, staff, PTSA, parent volunteers, and community members. Dr. Tanner-Anderson will continue to build on current strengths while forging new opportunities for growth and success.
Dr. Tanner-Anderson resides in Amelia County, her hometown, and enjoys spending time with her son, William, and her husband, Peyton.
She is excited to begin a new year at Amelia County Middle School, her first as principal!
